Student laboratory recertified as a genetic engineering laboratory S1 for another three years

The natural science laboratory for students at the FKG consists of two rooms, the biology and chemistry laboratories, which are classified as genetic engineering laboratories with safety level S1 and form the genetic engineering facility of the student laboratory.

This classification must be renewed every three years in accordance with the German Genetic Engineering Act (GenTG). In September 2025, representatives of the government of Lower Franconia therefore inspected our genetic engineering facility. They checked whether the laboratory meets all the requirements prescribed by the Genetic Engineering Act for safety level S1.

The inspectors from the government of Lower Franconia were impressed by the condition and organization of the laboratories. As a result, the student laboratory will retain its approval for genetic engineering work at safety level S1 until the end of 2028.
